In a significant step that enriches the cultural and academic landscape, the Unit of the Comparative Andalusian Morisco-Spanish Academy at the College of Arts, University of Mosul, has announced the launch of a distinguished, free Spanish language training course for beginners at level A1.

The course began on Thursday, April 17, 2025, and will continue for one month, with sessions held twice a week in one of the college’s classrooms. This initiative is part of the unit’s ongoing efforts to promote cultural and intellectual exchange between the Arab and Spanish civilizations and to open new horizons for those interested in discovering the treasures of Spanish language and culture. The course utilizes the latest educational and interactive methods to ensure maximum benefit for participants.

The course offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers the fundamentals and grammar of the Spanish language, while also focusing on the cultural and historical aspects linking the Arab world with Spain—especially the rich Andalusian era.

The course is supervised by Dr. Aida Mohammed, head of the unit, and taught by Mr. Mohammed Jihad Mahmoud, a lecturer in the Translation Department at Al-Noor University, specializing in Spanish. Participants include a distinguished group of faculty and staff from the College of Arts, as well as qualified individuals from outside the university who are interested in learning Spanish.

The course has received great appreciation from the participants, many of whom expressed their enthusiasm for acquiring new language skills that open wide doors for cultural, academic, and professional communication. Dr. Aida Mohammed emphasized the importance of such courses in enhancing the university’s role as a center of cultural and civilizational enlightenment, expanding the participants’ horizons, and introducing them to diverse global cultures and languages.

It is worth noting that the Unit of the Comparative Andalusian Morisco-Spanish Academy consistently strives to organize various events and activities that support its mission of studying shared Andalusian heritage and fostering cultural dialogue between the Arab world and Spain. This course marks an important step in that direction, offering participants a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the Spanish language.

The course is expected to enrich academic and cultural life at the University of Mosul and equip participants with valuable language skills that enhance their knowledge, cultural awareness, and professional opportunities.
