A Symposium at the Department of History

Under the patronage of the respected President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and in the presence of the respected Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Hatim Fahd Hano, the Department of History held a scientific seminar at Ibn Al-Athir Hall in the College of Arts on Sunday, April 27, 2025. The seminar, titled “Recent Developments in Contemporary History Studies,” discussed the importance of historical studies as a fundamental pillar for understanding the development of human societies across the ages.

The seminar emphasized that history is not a static science, but rather a field that constantly interacts with new discoveries and evolving perspectives. Hence, the importance of updating historical studies, both in terms of curricula and outcomes, to ensure a more accurate and comprehensive reading of the past. It was also noted that we should not merely preserve history, but continually revisit it in light of new data and emerging needs, in order to remain faithful to its greater mission, which allows for a deep understanding of humanity in its ongoing quest to shape its destiny.

The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Hashem Abdulrazzaq, and the following speakers presented at the seminar:
