UoM Hosts International Scholar for Lecture on Identity and Translation

Mosul, Iraq – Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Al-Ibrahimi, and with the guidance of the Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahad Al-Tai, the Department of Translation, supervised by its Head, Professor Dr. Hala Khalid Najm, hosted Professor Justine Pas from Lindenwood University in the United States on Monday, May 12, 2025.
Professor Pas delivered an interactive lecture via Google Meet platform titled “Displaced Identities and Translation: A Reading of Eva Hoffman’s Lost in Translation.” The session was moderated by Assistant Professor Ali Hamada Makled.
The lecture sparked numerous insightful contributions and discussions among the faculty members of the Translation Department. The dialogue centered on critical issues surrounding language, translation, culture, and their intricate relationship with identity. Participants explored the profound impact of these elements on the formation of both personal and broader cultural identities in relation to the source material.
