History Department Symposium: Baghdad’s Civilizational Legacy in the Islamic Eras

In recognition of Baghdad’s designation as the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2025, the Department of History, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Arts, organized a scholarly symposium. The event, titled “The Civilizational and Historical Role of the Capital Baghdad in the Islamic Eras,” was held in Ibn al-Atheer Hall at the College on the morning of Thursday, May 29, 2025. The symposium was attended by Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, Dean of the College of Arts, and numerous faculty members.

A distinguished group of history professors participated, presenting research papers that elucidated the scientific, cultural, and urban facets of Baghdad during its zenith as a global hub of knowledge, culture, and the cradle of an Islamic civilization that influenced regions worldwide. The presentations emphasized the critical importance of preserving this civilizational heritage and leveraging it to foster cultural tourism.
