Master’s Thesis in the College of Arts on Social Underdevelopment and its Implications for Development

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, the Department of Sociology at the College of Arts convened for the defense of a master’s thesis titled “Social Underdevelopment and its Implications for Developmental Realities: A Field Study in Al-Hawija District.” The session was attended by Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, Dean of the College, Dr. Firas Abbas Fadil, Head of the Department, and numerous faculty members.
The thesis, submitted by Hussein Khalaf Hussein Salih, a student in the Sociology Department, investigated social underdevelopment and its ramifications across various facets of comprehensive development. The student selected Al-Hawija District and its community as the empirical setting for testing the study’s hypotheses.
This research endeavors to identify the socio-cultural factors and values that either facilitate or impede societal advancement through the implementation of comprehensive and sustainable development plans.
