PhD Dissertation on the Political and Military Role of Commanders in the Islamic East

On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Department of History at the College of Arts held a defense for a PhD dissertation titled “Commanders of the Army and Their Political and Military Role in the Islamic East (254 – 447 AH / 867 – 1055 AD).” The session was attended by Dr. Mahmoud Salih Saeed, Head of the Department, and several faculty members.

The study, presented by Ismail Mohammed Ali Jamous Al-Jubouri, a student in the History Department, delved into the political and military influence of princely army commanders in the Islamic emirates of the East. It also examined their role in suppressing internal movements and rebellions, as well as their involvement in external wars.

The primary objective of this research is to highlight the political and military contributions of army commanders within the Islamic emirates of the East.
