Department of Information and Knowledge Technologies Hosts Symposium on the Future of Libraries in the Age of AI

Under the patronage of the University President, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, the Department of Information and Knowledge Technologies at the College of Arts, University of Mosul, organized a scientific symposium titled “The Future of Libraries in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Methods of Service Provision.” The symposium was held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in the Technical Procedures Hall.

The symposium addressed the challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence presents to libraries and how libraries can adapt to these changes to offer better and more advanced services to their users.

The symposium included the following key presentations:

  1. The Smart Library: How AI is Reshaping User Experience, presented by Lecturer Dr. Omar Tawfiq Abd Al-Qadir.
  2. The Augmented Librarian: The Role of Human Resources Amidst Library Service Automation with AI, presented by Assistant Lecturer Rami Rakan Arab.
  3. Building Future Libraries in the Age of AI: Challenges and Opportunities, presented by Assistant Lecturer Majd Mayser Abd Al-Baqi.

The symposium aimed to highlight the evolving role of libraries, showcase the latest AI technologies that can be deployed, discuss available challenges and opportunities, enhance attendees’ understanding of how to improve user experience, and generate practical recommendations to support library development and empower human resources in this new era.
