Doctoral Dissertation on “Polarity in the Poetry of Najm al-Din Ibn Sawar al-Dimashqi (d. 677 AH)”

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, the Arabic Language Department at the College of Arts convened to discuss a doctoral dissertation on “Polarity in the Poetry of Najm al-Din Ibn Sawar al-Dimashqi (d. 677 AH).” The discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahad Al-Tai, the Head of the Department, Dr. Ahmed Salih Younis, and several faculty members.
The study, presented by student Intisar Ahmed Ali in the Arabic Language Department, delved into the duality of poles in the poetry of Najm al-Din Ibn Sawar al-Dimashqi (d. 677 AH), highlighting its most prominent feature which permeated his diwan and reflected the poet’s culture and creativity. The research aimed to offer an insight into this poetic polarity, providing a comprehensive thesis on the poetry of that era.
After extensive academic deliberations, the examination committee deemed it necessary to amend the dissertation’s title from “Polarity in the Poetry of Najm al-Din Ibn Sawar al-Dimashqi (d. 677 AH)” to “Artistic Manifestations in the Poetry of Najm al-Din Ibn Sawar al-Dimashqi (d. 677 AH).” This change was made to ensure the title is more comprehensive and consistent with the dissertation’s content and themes, accurately reflecting the critical and analytical approach adopted by the researcher.
