Doctoral Dissertation Discussed: “Motivations for American Interest in Arab States of the Horn of Africa (2001-2009)”
On Monday, June 23, 2025, the Department of History at the College of Arts discussed a doctoral dissertation titled “Motivations for American Interest in Arab States of the Horn of Africa (2001-2009).” The discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahad Al-Tai, the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Mahmoud Salih Saeed, and several faculty members.
The study, presented by student Ragheed Haitham Munib Ibrahim from the History Department, examined the American interest in the Arab states of Somalia, Djibouti, and Sudan in the Horn of Africa during the presidency of George W. Bush Jr. It focused on the political and economic aspects between 2001 and 2009.
The research aimed to highlight the primary motivations behind American interest in the Horn of Africa region in general, and specifically in the Arab states of Somalia, Djibouti, and Sudan, concerning their political and economic conditions from 2001 to 2009.
