Master’s Thesis Defense: “A Systemic Functional Grammar Approach for the Study of NIRIJ Investigative Journalistic Discourse”
On Monday, July 21, 2025, the English Language Department at the College of Arts hosted a master’s thesis defense titled “A Systemic Functional Grammar Approach for the Study of NIRIJ Investigative Journalistic Discourse.” The defense was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, Head of the Department, Dr. Salih Abdullah Abdulrahman, and several faculty members.
The study, presented by student Noor Khalaf Hussein, aims to analyze the linguistic structure of investigative journalistic discourse using Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar. It specifically focuses on the ideational function to analyze how language constructs meaning in investigative reports.
