Master’s Thesis on “The Aesthetics of Ugliness in the Poetry of Al-Farazdaq”

The Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts discussed a master’s thesis on “The Aesthetics of Ugliness in the Poetry of Al-Farazdaq” on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. The Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, the Head of the Department, Dr. Ahmed Saleh Younis, and several college faculty members attended part of the discussion.

The study, presented by student Ahmed Saad Ahmed Matar Al-Rashidi from the Department of Arabic Language, delved into the aesthetics of ugliness in artistic works.

The research aimed to demonstrate that ugliness can carry aesthetic and artistic connotations and is not simply the opposite of beauty. Instead, it can be considered a form of beauty that allows the artist the freedom to express marginalized and distorted aspects that traditional aesthetic views often overlook.

  • Assistant Professor Dr. Khalid Faris Khalil, College of Arts, University of Mosul (Member)
