On Monday, August 11, 2025, the Department of History at the College of Arts held a master’s thesis defense for a study titled “The Banu Al-Mughirah ibn Shu’bah and Their Role in the Umayyad Era.” The defense was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Taie, the Head of the Department, Dr. Mahmoud Saleh Saeed, and several faculty members.
The study, presented by student Hakam Hassan Muhammad Salih Ra’ouf Al-A’raji, explored the tribe to which the Banu Al-Mughirah ibn Shu’bah belonged, the reasons for the rapprochement between the Thaqif tribe and the Umayyads, and the nature of the social and economic relations between the two sides.
The study aimed to shed light on the political and administrative roles of the sons of Al-Mughirah during the Umayyad era. It also examined the impact of their military role, both in supporting and opposing the Umayyad state. Additionally, the research classified the narrations of the Banu Al-Mughirah ibn Shu’bah into several chapters, following the jurisprudential method used for classifying the noble prophetic traditions (Hadith).
