Master’s Thesis Defense: “Educational Curricula and Their Role in Shaping Social Identity: A Field Study in Duhok Preparatory Schools”

The Department of Sociology at the College of Arts held a master’s thesis defense for a study titled “Educational Curricula and Their Role in Shaping Social Identity: A Field Study in Duhok Preparatory Schools.” The defense took place on Thursday, August 28, 2025, and was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Taie, the Head of the Department, Dr. Firas Abbas Fadhel, and several faculty members.
The study, submitted by postgraduate student Yousif Shmuel Yousif, explored the vital role of educational curricula in shaping the social identity of preparatory school students. This age is considered a crucial stage where students’ self-awareness and sense of belonging to their community are solidified.
Thesis Objectives
The thesis aimed to analyze the content of curricula that contribute to building social identity, determine the relationship between the study’s variables, and identify differences linked to students’ demographic characteristics. It also sought to pinpoint the most prominent factors that strengthen social identity.
