Higher Diploma Thesis Defense: The Role of Care for People with Special Needs in Promoting Social Peace

On Thursday, September 11, 2025, the Department of Sociology at the College of Arts held a defense for a Higher Diploma thesis, which is equivalent to a master’s degree. The thesis was titled, “The Role of Care for People with Special Needs in Promoting Social Peace: A Field Study at Al-Noor Institute for the Blind in Mosul.”
The defense was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, the Head of the Department, Firas Abbas Fadhel, and several faculty members.
The study, presented by student Vivian Abdul Ghani Hamed Ahmed, examined the social care provided to people with disabilities and how this care helps promote social peace.
The thesis aimed to analyze the impact of caring for people with special needs, specifically the visually impaired, on fostering social peace. It did this by conducting a field study at the Al-Noor Institute for the Blind in Mosul to understand the quality of services provided and the methods used to integrate this group into the community.
