Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development: A Master’s Thesis

 

The Department of Sociology at the College of Arts, University of Mosul, held a master’s thesis defense on “The Role of Renewable Energy in Promoting Sustainable Development: A Field Study in Al-Hawija District.” The defense took place on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, and was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, the Head of the Department, Dr. Firas Abbas Fadhel, and several faculty members.

The study, presented by student Maher Ibrahim Mohammed, addressed the current state of renewable energy in the district. It aimed to measure residents’ awareness of renewable energy sources, analyze the relationship between energy and environmental and economic sustainability, identify barriers to adoption, and propose practical mechanisms to support its use in the region.

The thesis sought to identify the role of renewable energy in advancing sustainable development in Al-Hawija district and to examine the status of renewable energy at the global, regional, and local levels, leading up to the study area.
