rientalism Unit Launches Its First Academic Activities on Islamic-European Convergence in the Middle Ages
The Orientalism Unit at the College of Arts launched its inaugural academic event on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, with a lecture titled “Points of Islamic-European Encounter in the Middle Ages (Al-Andalus, Sicily, the Crusades).”
The event was attended by the Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Hano Al-Tai, and the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Safwan Nadhim Dawood.
The speakers analyzed the key cultural, scientific, and intellectual threads that contributed to the cohesion between East and West. They highlighted the roles of Al-Andalus and Sicily as centers of intellectual exchange and influential elements in the maturity of European culture at the time.
