Master’s Thesis Defense on “Semantic Development in the Poetry of Waleed Al-Sarraf”

A master’s thesis titled “Semantic Development in the Poetry of Walid Al-Sarraf” was successfully defended at the Department of Arabic Language, College of Arts, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. The defense was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Ta’i, the Head of the Department, Dr. Ahmed Saleh Younis, and several faculty members.

The study, submitted by student Muhammad Shukr Mahmoud Atiyyah Al-Jubouri, focused on a critical aspect of the contemporary experience of the poet Walid Al-Sarraf from Mosul. The research contributed to highlighting the phenomenon of semantic development in contemporary poetry, particularly within the context of current aesthetic and communicative challenges.

The thesis aimed to:

  • Trace the manifestations and forms of semantic development in Al-Sarraf’s poetry.
  • Analyze the semantic structure of his texts, including the role of the lexicon and its impact on shaping the poetic image.
  • Contribute to the advancement of applied semantic studies on modern Arabic poetry.
