Oriental Studies Unit Organizes Training Course on Manuscript Verification and Its Challenges

The Oriental Studies Unit at the College of Arts organized a two-day training course (October 14–15, 2025) titled “Verification and the Challenges of Verification.”
The course introduced participants to the Arabic manuscript and the most prominent challenges faced by verifiers during their work, such as mistakes in orthography (Tashif), corruption of text (Tahrif), omission (Hazf), and truncation (Qass). Additionally, the course presented samples of rare Arabic manuscripts and showcased the oldest known manuscript of the Holy Qur’an in the world.
The course was managed by Professor Dr. Maysoon Thanoun, with lectures delivered by Professor Muthaffar Hussein Ali and Lecturer Mahdi Mohammed Ali. The session witnessed fruitful interaction from the attendees due, to its rich academic content and specialized discussions in the field of heritage verification.
