Master’s Thesis Discussed at the Faculty of Arts on “Suspense in Jihad Al-Rajabi’s Novel, The Desert”

The Department of Arabic Language at the Faculty of Arts successfully discussed a Master’s thesis concerning “Suspense in Jihad Al-Rajabi’s Novel, The Desert” on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The defense was attended by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahad Al-Tai, the Head of the Department, Dr. Ahmed Saleh Younis, and several faculty members.

The study, presented by student Saif Mohammed Baath Fahmi Al-Zubaidi, explored the concept of suspense (Al-Tashweeq) within Al-Rajabi’s novel. The thesis was structured into two main chapters:

  1. Chapter One: Addressed Thresholds, Naming, and Temporal Overlap.
  2. Chapter Two: Focused on the techniques of Surprise and Suspenseful Narrative Redundancy (Elaboration).

The primary objective of the research is to analyze the literary techniques used to engage the reader and motivate them to complete the novel.
