Analysis of Syntactic Elements: Conjunction and Disjunction in Ibn Hisham al-Ansari’s Sharh al-Qatr and Sharh al-Shuthur
The Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts held a Master’s thesis defense on “Syntactic Components of Conjunction (Waṣl) and Disjunction (Faṣl) in Ibn Hisham al-Ansari’s (d. 761 AH) Commentaries: Sharh al-Qatr and Sharh al-Shuthur.”
The defense took place on Sunday, October 26, 2025. A portion of the session was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahad Al-Tai, alongside a number of the College’s academic staff.
Study Objective
The research, presented by the student Bakhtiar Muhammad Ali Younis, aimed to conduct an in-depth study of syntactic conjunction and disjunction (al-Waṣl wa-al-Faṣl al-Naḥwī), specifically identifying and elucidating the most significant instances of these phenomena as presented by the eminent grammarian Ibn Hisham al-Ansari.
