Faculty Member Participates in Eighth Scientific Conference of the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage
Dr. Maysoon Thanoun Al-Abayaji, a faculty member in the Oriental Studies Unit at the College of Arts – University of Mosul, participated in the Eighth Scientific Conference of the Department of Archaeological Studies, Research, and Training at the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage in Baghdad. The conference was held on Monday, October 27, 2025.
Dr. Al-Abayji presented her research titled: “The Flourishing of Scientific Life in Baghdad in the Fifth and Sixth Hijri Centuries through George Makdisi’s Book ‘The Rise of Colleges: Institutions of Learning in Islam and the West’,” in which she discussed Baghdad’s pioneering role as a civilizational and scientific center during the Middle Ages. She also covered the evolution of schools there, from study circles in mosques to organized educational institutions whose intellectual impact remains evident today.
