Faculty Members from the College of Arts Participate in a Scientific Workshop on Orientalism in Arabic Literature
Dr. Faris Aziz (Lecturer) and Mr. Mahmoud Ahmed Barwari participated in the scientific workshop held by the Al-Noor Center for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, in cooperation with the Orientalism Studies Unit at the University of Mosul, the French Cultural Center, and Al-Noor University.
The workshop was titled “Orientalism in Arabic Literature: Stations and Transformations.”
Workshop Main Themes
The workshop included three main axes:

First Axis: Dr. Faris Aziz presented an introductory overview of Orientalism, its methodologies, and its mechanisms for understanding the ‘Other’.

Second Axis: Dr. Mohammed Zuhair discussed French Orientalism as the initial threshold for academic Orientalism.

Third Axis: Presented by Mr. Mahmoud Ahmed Barwari, this axis addressed the cultural transformations in Europe following the arrival of Arabic texts, such as One Thousand and One Nights and The Mu’allaqat, and their role in paving the way for the birth of the Romantic Movement.
