Academic Workshop: Addressing Minority Rights in Iraqi Law

Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Hano, the Human Rights Unit at the College of Arts, in collaboration with the Human Rights Division in the Presidency of the University of Mosul, the High Commission for Human Rights in Nineveh Governorate, and the Department of Studies and Planning/Sustainable Development Unit, held an academic workshop on December 14, 2025, titled: “Minority Rights in Iraqi Law.”

The workshop explored the legal framework for protecting minority rights in Iraq by reviewing relevant constitutional articles and national legislation, alongside the international legal principles ratified by Iraq, which aim to safeguard the rights of religious, ethnic, and national components within Iraqi society.

The session also featured an analytical discussion on the role of current legislation in reinforcing the principles of equality and non-discrimination, and activating legal protection mechanisms for minorities. This discussion drew upon practical, real-world experiences that reflect both the challenges and opportunities in this critical field.
