Master’s Thesis Defense: Khalid Nezzar and Political Developments in Algeria until 1993

The Department of History at the College of Arts debated a Master’s thesis titled “Khalid Nezzar and Political Developments in Algeria until 1993” on Monday, December 15, 2025. The session was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Taie, the Head of the Department, Dr. Mahmoud Saleh Saeed, and a number of College faculty members.

The study, presented by student Saadallah Ahmed Uwaid Al-Salami of the History Department, aimed to analyze the role of Khalid Nezzar in Algeria’s political developments during the period 1937–1993. The research specifically focused on the political crisis of 1992, during which Khalid Nezzar led the military coup that overthrew President Chadli Bendjedid following the victory of the Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) in the legislative elections.
