Master’s Thesis Defense: “Christian Migration: Causes and Challenges of Return (A Field Study in the Nineveh Plains)”

The Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts hosted a Master’s thesis defense titled “Christian Migration: Causes and Challenges of Return (A Field Study in the Nineveh Plains)” on Monday, December 29, 2025. The session was attended by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, the Head of the Sociology Department, Dr. Firas Abbas Fadhil, and several faculty members.
The study, presented by the student Fadi Yaqoub Ishaq Matti, aims to construct a clear picture of the Christian community’s reality in the Nineveh Plains both before and after migration. It seeks to uncover the primary drivers behind Christian migration from Iraq in general, and the Nineveh Plains in particular, while scientifically diagnosing and analyzing the most significant challenges hindering their return to their ancestral lands.
