Fostering Harmony: Higher Diploma Thesis Explores the Role of Cultural Institutions in Mosul’s Community Peace

The Department of Sociology at the College of Arts successfully held a defense for a Higher Diploma thesis titled “Cultural Institutions and Their Role in Enhancing Community Peace in the City of Mosul: A Field Study.” The session, held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Taie, the Head of the Department, Dr. Firas Abbas Fadhil, and several faculty members.
Scope of the Study
The research, submitted by student Ghufran Mohammed Jarallah Ali Al-Hamdani, examines cultural institutions as powerful catalysts for spreading the values of understanding and coexistence. Using the city of Mosul as a primary model, the study highlights a region characterized by its rich cultural and social diversity.
Research Objectives
The thesis aimed to:

Evaluate Institutional Value: Demonstrate the significance and impact of cultural institutions within Mosul’s social fabric.

Anchor Peace Concepts: Clarify the vital role these organizations play in consolidating the foundations of community peace and social harmony.
