Oriental Studies Unit Hosts Workshop on Trends in Spanish Orientalism

As part of its ongoing scientific activities, the Oriental Studies Unit at the College of Arts organized an interactive workshop titled “Research Trends in Spanish Oriental Studies” on January 11, 2026.

The workshop was presented by Dr. Saleh Salem Ibrahim and Assistant Lecturer Duha Tariq. The presenters provided a comprehensive overview of the evolution of Arabic studies in Spain, tracing its history from the 5th century AD through to contemporary academic discourse. The session also highlighted the most prominent Spanish Orientalist institutions and influential figures who have shaped the field.

Conclusions and Recommendations

The workshop concluded with several key takeaways, most notably:

  • The necessity of strengthening scientific communication with Spanish Orientalists.

  • The importance of supporting academic research by staying updated on modern developments in the field.
