Master’s Thesis Examined: Translating the Accusative of Specification in the Holy Qur’an

On Sunday, January 18, 2026, the Department of Translation at the College of Arts held a public defense for a Master’s thesis titled “The Translation of Accusative of Specification in the Noble Qur’an into English.” The session was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatim Fahd al-Ta’i, along with several faculty members.

Study Overview

The study, presented by graduate student Karam Ali Hamid Ahmed, explores the linguistic nuances of translating the “Accusative of Specification” (at-Tamyiz) from the Holy Qur’an into English. The research utilized Nida’s Model of Translation to evaluate how effectively the original meaning is conveyed across different languages and cultures.

Objectives

The primary goal of the research was to analyze English translations of Qur’anic verses containing the Tamyiz structure. By doing so, the researcher aimed to determine the extent to which translators succeeded in capturing the intended divine meaning and the grammatical precision of the Arabic text.
