Social Institutions and Countering Intellectual Extremism: Higher Diploma Thesis Examined at College of Arts

The Department of Sociology at the College of Arts held a public defense for a Higher Diploma thesis titled “The Social Institution and its Role in Limiting Intellectual Extremism: The Iraqi Media Network as a Model – A Socio-Analytical Study.” The session, held on Thursday, January 15, 2025, was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatim Fahd Al-Ta’i, the Head of the Sociology Department, Dr. Firas Abbas Fadhil, and several faculty members.

Study Objectives

The study, presented by the student Khader Khalaf Owaid, focused on strategies to curb intellectual extremism. It specifically examined the influence of broadcast media and radio in promoting moderate thought and its overall role in fostering social peace and community stability within the city of Mosul.
