A Brief Overview of the Department-Department of Media

A Brief Background:

of ArtsThe Department of Media was established in the College University of Mosul, in 2012. In its first session for the academic year (2012-2013), it received (50) students for the purpose of preparing and qualifying them after graduation to meet the needs of society and serve it as distinguished media professionals who are scientifically and intellectually qualified to raise the level of committed media performance in media institutions. The department graduated (10) courses until the academic year (2024-2025).

The department opened an evening study in 2024 and (40) students were accepted. A studio was established in the department and equipped with the latest technical devices and equipment. The department awards a bachelor’s degree in media/journalism, and seeks to prepare qualified media professionals after the availability of other necessary requirements from laboratories such as the montage laboratory and the computer laboratory to train students in the field of journalism, media, radio and television. The department aims to achieve a strategy aimed at creating a branch (radio, television and public relations), and establishing a radio station for the University of Mosul. After completing the specialized staff, we seek to transform the department into a college called (College of Media).

The department seeks to qualify students to practice journalism, news gathering and editing, and to work in media institutions (newspapers, radio, and television), as well as in the fields of preparing and presenting programs and directing radio and television. It also aims to develop students’ capabilities in the field of journalistic editing and media work in line with the requirements of the labor market in technical and digital media.
