Doctoral Dissertation on “A Pragma-stylistic Assessment of the English Interpretation of Arab Leaders’ Speeches in the UN General Assembly”

The Translation Department at the College of Arts discussed a doctoral dissertation titled “A pragma-stylistic assessment of the English interpretation of Arab leaders’ speeches in the UN General Assembly” on Sunday, August 17, 2025. The Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, the Head of the Department, Dr. Hala Khalid Najm, and several faculty members attended part of the discussion.

The study, presented by the student Raed Ismail Ahmed, focused on a pragma-stylistic assessment of the translation of Arab leaders’ speeches in the UN General Assembly and the translators’ ability to convey these styles in the target language.

The study aims to show the extent of the translators’ ability to transfer the pragmatic and stylistic features of the source language into the target language.
