PHD dissertation at the Department of Arabic on volunteer work and its role in community development through a field study in Nineveh Governorate

The Department of Arabic at College of Arts held a viva for a PHD dissertation entitled “VOLUNTEER WORK AND ITS ROLE IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: A FIELD STUDY IN NINEVEH GOVERNORATE,” on September 23, 2021 in the library hall of the Department of History at the Faculty of Arts, attended by Prof. Dr. Munir Salem Taha, assistant president of the university for scientific affairs, Assistant Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afin, the Dean of College of Arts along with a number of faculty members.The PHD dissertation submitted by the student (Jasim Hasan Jasim) in the Department of Arabic, dealt with the role of associations, organizations and voluntary teams in providing assistance to individuals and various groups in Iraq in general and in Nineveh Governorate in particular, because it is considered a stricken city after the devastating war that it was exposed to, and its role in achieving community development and the extent of its contribution to the stability of the province.The study aimed to show the important role of voluntary work in strengthening social relations between members of society and building bridges of communication and cooperation between members of society. As most of the volunteers working in the organizations are married males who hold a bachelor’s degree.The study concluded that voluntary work has a major role in promoting social development and pushing it towards progress and in acquiring planning skills and solving social problems. The study also found that most of the volunteers have a desire to volunteer, so their work may not be limited to their areas of origin.The viva committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Shafiq Ibrahim Salih and the membership of Prof. Dr. Adnan Yassin Mustafa from the University of Baghdad, Prof. Muadh Ahmed Hassan from the University of Anbar, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Saleh Ali from Tikrit University, and Assistant Professor Dr. Juma Jassim Khalaf, under the supervision and membership of Prof. Dr. Harith Hazem Ayoub.
