Sustainable Development
The earliest known use of the noun sustainable development is in the 1970s. as the UN defines the Sustainable development, it is how we must live today if we want a better tomorrow, by meeting present needs without compromising the chances of future generations to meet their needs. The survival of our societies and our shared planet depends on a more sustainable world. It’s a bit of a juggling act. Three different balls must be kept in the air at once: economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection. If one or two fall to the ground, the act is over. An economy might grow rapidly, for instance – but only for so long if most people remain poor and all the natural resources are used up.
Where development is sustainable, everyone has access to decent work, quality health care and education. Natural resource use avoids pollution and permanent losses to the environment. Public policy choices ensure that no one is left behind due to disadvantages or discrimination.
Accordingly, the College of Arts was a pioneer in paying attention to activities related to sustainable development, and this is evident in the following activities:
1- Using solar energy cells to generate clean electrical energy and reducing the college’s dependence on electrical energy produced by the state using oil and natural gas, which contributes greatly to protecting the environment.
2- Use environment-friendly means of transportation to transport mail to and from the college, such as electric bicycles.
3- The college paid a great deal of attention to afforestation.
4- The college also took care of people with determination by building special paths and toilets for them. It also dedicated special parking spaces for their cars.
