Vision, Mission, and Objectives of the History Department

Vision:
The History Department aims to build an open Iraqi national character that rejects fanaticism, extremism, and intellectual isolation. It believes in dialogue, the right of individuals to coexist, and the enhancement of national belonging, deepening its vision by relying on historical knowledge as a means to achieve its developmental goals. This approach seeks to combine authenticity and modernity through studying the past to envision the future while maintaining continuous interaction with society and its institutions.

Mission:
The mission of the History Department is to establish rigorous scientific means for studying human history comprehensively, focusing on its noble human values. It emphasizes the role of the student in the learning process as the center of educational and teaching efforts, encouraging rigorous scientific research that reinforces national and Islamic identity in the study of history, instilling Islamic and human values in students’ minds and hearts, and promoting serious scientific publishing that upholds these values.

Objectives:

  1. The History Department aims to utilize history to create a bright image for the future and build a conscious generation fortified against intellectual dangers through critique and analysis.
  2. To develop critical thinking skills that analyze historical events and study them with an open mind.
  3. To enhance the ability to read and critique ancient historical texts, shaping the academic researcher’s identity in the field of history.
  4. To explore human experiences and life lessons and their applicability in our contemporary world.
  5. To encourage students to engage with others with an open mindset that values opinions based on their original intellectual references.
  6. To equip students with historical research skills that enable them to delve into historical issues and problems.
  7. To prepare specialized research personnel for collecting, arranging, classifying, and indexing information, facts, and events to facilitate their study.
  8. To provide scientific, educational, research, and academic institutions inside and outside Iraq with diverse historical specializations.
  9. To be ready to participate in providing research consultations in various historical fields to contribute to the development of community visions and enhance its historical culture.
