Vision: The department seeks to achieve leadership and excellence in the fields of education, training, knowledge production and dissemination in the field of information, libraries and community service to reach an advanced position among information departments and libraries at the level of Iraqi and Arab universities by graduating information specialists to work in information institutions spread in government departments.

Mission: Taking care of providing advanced programs in the various sub-disciplines of the department according to scientific standards, with the aim of qualifying qualified graduates who contribute to the development of society scientifically, cognitively, economically and socially, and work to rebuild Iraqi information institutions and libraries of all kinds, and adhere to spiritual, ethical, professional and pluralistic values, and support human rights Preserving the Arabic language and heritage, making the best use of technologies as possible, striving towards producing research that contributes to community service, and providing technical advice to raise the level of information institutions in society and their competencies in information, libraries and documentation.

Objectives: The department aims to achieve the following goals:

1- Attracting scientifically and educationally qualified staff in information and library specializations in accordance with the specifications and quality standards adopted in higher education in Iraq.

2- Promoting scientific research in the field of information and libraries to meet the requirements of the labor market, and encouraging conducting research related to community programs, as well as supporting research with future and applied visions.

3- Continuous development of curricula at the level of primary and postgraduate studies in accordance with the latest developments in knowledge, methodology and contemporary technology.

4- The continuous development of the department in line with the needs of the labor market at the University of Mosul and all information institutions.

5- Promoting religious, moral and patriotic values among university youth, developing a spirit of cooperation and a sense of responsibility and awareness among students, and pushing them to peaceful coexistence and acceptance of others in university life.

6- Participation in community service through direct and continuous interaction, providing scientific advice and promoting continuing education programs, especially in the field of information technology and information systems.

7- Work to prepare a technical staff to work on libraries and information centers and develop them in line with the scientific development witnessed by international libraries.

8- Providing specialized scientific consultations in the field of information and knowledge Techniques to support public and private sector institutions.

9- Developing scientific competencies through postgraduate programs in the department (Masters)
