Vision, Mission, and Objectives

Vision:

The Translation Department aims to achieve leadership and excellence in education, knowledge production and dissemination, and community service. Our goal is to attain a prominent position among translation departments in Iraqi and Arab universities, distinguishing ourselves in all areas of translation to better serve society.

Mission:

Our mission is to keep pace with the global scientific and cultural movements, adapt to modern and future developments and demands, and integrate artificial intelligence into translation fields to support scientific progress. We are committed to graduating qualified Bachelor’s degree holders in translation and preparing competent academic and professional cadres in translation that meet market needs and societal aspirations.

Objectives:

The Translation Department’s key objectives are:

  • Equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become proficient translators, developing their capabilities in both simultaneous and written translation. We also aim to contribute to community service through translation services and linguistic consultations.
  • Enhance the department’s potential and sustainability, and develop undergraduate and postgraduate curricula in accordance with global competitiveness standards.
  • Adopt contemporary teaching methodologies that reinforce the learning process and foster critical thinking and creative research among students, aligning with labor market demands and societal needs.
  • Prepare specialized technical personnel in translation to meet the growing demand for translators in various professional fields, including official departments, institutions, press agencies, radio, and television.
  • Advance theoretical and applied knowledge in translation and linguistic transfer across diverse fields such as science, literature, politics, law, and media.
  • Prepare and qualify students for postgraduate studies by developing their intellectual, scientific, and research skills.
  • Cultivate precise listening, accurate reading, and thorough comprehension and analysis of English texts.
  • Promote cultural and social exchange with other civilizations, facilitating the transfer of knowledge that aligns with Iraqi culture.
  • Develop linguistic discernment enabling students to differentiate between texts, meanings, and expressive linguistic styles.
  • Provide students with essential translation skills and knowledge of various translation methods, while enhancing their critical capabilities in written and simultaneous translation.
  • Furnish students with sufficient linguistic knowledge in both Arabic and English to enable them to translate diverse text types across various knowledge domains in both languages.
  • Train students in the use of modern technical translation tools, both for written and oral translation.
  • Establish effective partnerships with the local community by preparing highly competent personnel in written and oral translation.
  • Nurture and encourage talented students who show potential for specialization in various branches of translation.
  • Develop students’ personal, psychological, and scientific capacity for practicing various types of translation within the department, particularly sight, consecutive, and simultaneous translation.
  • Harmonize theoretical approaches with practical realities in translation studies.
  • Keep abreast of the latest scientific developments in the field and work to apply them.
  • Activate e-learning in translation studies.
  • Utilize modern teaching methods, technologies, and educational aids in translation instruction.
  • Lead in offering distinguished postgraduate programs in linguistics and translation, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and scientific research, and meeting the needs of local and international communities.
  • Deliver high-quality postgraduate programs in linguistics and translation, based on the latest educational and technological approaches, to produce qualified graduates capable of addressing contemporary linguistic and cultural challenges.
  • Develop curricula: Update curricula to incorporate the latest theories and practices in linguistics and translation.
  • Enhance scientific research: Support and encourage scientific research in linguistics and translation, promoting publication in global databases by providing necessary resources and developing students’ research skills.
  • Foster international cooperation: Establish partnerships with international universities and institutions to enhance academic and cultural exchange and broaden students’ horizons.
  • Develop practical skills: Provide practical and training opportunities for students to enhance their practical skills in translation and linguistic communication.
  • Embrace technology: Integrate modern technology into teaching and scientific research to enhance the efficiency of the educational process and develop students’ skills in using the up-to-date technological tools.
  • Serve the community: Offer consulting and training services to the local community in linguistics and translation.
