Vision, Mission and Objects-Department of Translation

Vision:
achieving leadership and excellence in education, knowledge production and dissemination, and community service to reach an advanced position among translation departments in Iraqi and Arab universities and excellence in all fields of translation in pursuit of community service.
Mission:
preparing scientific and professional cadres in the field of translation that suit market needs and the aspirations and values of society.
Program Objectives of the Translation Department:
– Preparing technical staff in translation and filling the growing need for translators in the various work fields in official departments and institutions, the press, radio and television, and others.
– Developing theoretical and applied knowledge in translation and linguistic transmission in various branches of scientific, literary, political, legal, and media knowledge.
– Preparing and qualifying students to pursue postgraduate studies by developing their intellectual, scientific, and research skills.
– Empowering the ability of correct listening, proper reading, accurate understanding of texts, and analyzing them in the English language.
– Promoting cultural and social communication with other civilizations and transferring everything that suits our Iraqi culture.
– Developing linguistic taste that enables students to identify differences between texts, meanings, and verbal expressive styles.
– Providing students with the necessary skills for translation, knowing its methods, and raising their critical skills regarding written translation and simultaneous interpretation.
– Providing the students of the department with sufficient linguistic knowledge in Arabic and English, which gives them the ability to translate different types of texts in various fields of knowledge in Arabic and English.
– Training students on modern technical translation tools, written translation, and simultaneous interpreting.
– Building effective partnerships with local community institutions through preparing highly qualified cadres in written translation and simultaneous interpreting.
– Sponsoring and encouraging talented students who can specialize in different branches of translation.
– Developing the personal psychological and scientific abilities of the students of the department by practicing translation of all kinds within the corridors of the department, especially sight translation, consecutive translation, and simultaneous interpreting.
– Harmonization between theoretical trends and practical reality in the science of translation.
– Keeping up with the recent scientific developments in specialization and employing them.
– Activating e-learning in the science of translation.
– Employing modern teaching methods, techniques, and teaching aids in teaching translation.
