Basic Sciences/Oral Medicine on evaluating the effect of melatonin on wound healing after tooth extraction
College of Dentistry, University of Mosul, discussed a MSc thesis on evaluating the effect of melatonin on wound healing after tooth extraction, on Monday, February 14, 2022. The thesis was submitted by the student Shahd Saadallah Aziz in the Basic Sciences/Oral Medicines Departments dealt with the evaluation of the clinical and histological effects of melatonin on the wound after tooth extraction in rabbits.
This study concluded that the use of melatonin accelerated wound healing. Experiments have shown that melatonin has the ability to reduce inflammation through its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities, while melatonin accelerates healing by enhancing the granulation tissue associated with the healing process. The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Imad Abdul-Jabbar Thanoun/Professor at the College of Medicine, University of Mosul and with the membership of Prof. Dr. Fayhaa Azhar Mohieldin from the College of Dentistry/Mosul University, and Assistant Professor Bara Sultan Menwa, Al-Hadba University College/Department of Dentistry.
