A Seminar on Tissue Engineering in Oral Defects

As part of the activities of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at the College of Dentistry, University of Mosul, a seminar entitled “Tissue Engineering in Oral Defects” was held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
The seminar was presented by Lecturer Dr. Dhirar Ahmed Qasim and aimed to introduce the concept of tissue engineering and the fundamental principles on which it is based. It also clarified the main components of a tissue engineering system-cells, biomaterial scaffolds, and growth factors, and their respective roles in the tissue regeneration process. Additionally, the seminar discussed various types of oral and maxillofacial defects that can be treated using tissue engineering techniques, highlighting the advantages and benefits these methods offer compared to conventional treatment approaches. The presentation further addressed current challenges and future trends in this field.
The seminar was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Manar Mudafar Al-Neama, Head of the Department, and was attended by several faculty members of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department.
At the end of the session, Dr. Dhirar responded to the attendees’ questions and inquiries related to the topic.
