The College of Dentistry at the University of Mosul Continues Its Awareness Program on Drug Prevention and Their Impact on Health and Society

As part of the University of Mosul’s efforts to enhance community awareness and support the Sustainable Development Goals, the College of Dentistry continued its activities within the awareness program for drug prevention by organizing a workshop titled “The Dangers of Drugs and Their Impact on Health and Society” on Tuesday, 4 November 2025. The event was held in cooperation with the Sustainable Development Unit, the Department of Media and Government Communications at the University Presidency, and the Directorate of Drug Control in Nineveh.
The workshop was delivered by Colonel Abdullah Al-Rashdi, Deputy Director of the Directorate, and Mr. Falah Mahdi Saleh, Director of Media at the Directorate, with the attendance of a number of faculty members, students, and staff from the Media Department of the Drug Control Directorate. The workshop addressed several key themes, including the health effects of drugs on body systems and the immune system, the causes leading to drug use, psychological and social factors associated with addiction, and methods of prevention and reducing the spread of this phenomenon.
The speakers emphasized that combating drugs is not limited to security measures alone but requires broad community cooperation to promote preventive awareness among youth and students, and to support educational and health initiatives in this field.
This workshop is part of a series of ongoing activities conducted by the University of Mosul to promote health education and reinforce positive behavior within the university community, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals related to good health, quality education, peace, and justice.
