As part of the Iraqi Drug Prevention Week, and in cooperation with the Presidency of the University of Mosul / Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, the College of Dentistry – University of Mosul launched today the first lecture of the awareness workshop aimed at raising public understanding of the dangers of drugs and their health and social impacts.

The week commenced with a lecture titled “Drugs Harm to Individuals and Communities”, delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Neam Riyadh Saleem, Dean of the College of Dentistry. During the lecture, she addressed the concept of digital drugs, explaining the nature of this emerging phenomenon, the mechanisms through which it spreads across digital platforms, and the ways it affects the nervous system and human behavior in subtle and often imperceptible ways.

The Dean also highlighted the real risks posed by this modern trend, emphasizing that societal awareness constitutes the first line of defense. She noted that these substances do not target a specific group, but can affect various segments of society due to their widespread presence in the open digital space.

She concluded her lecture by underscoring the importance of strengthening digital literacy and promoting responsible engagement with online content to mitigate the dangers of digital drugs and protect the community from their negative effects.
