Oral viva of doctorate dissertation at the Department of Conservative Dentistry/ College of Dentistry

College of Dentistry discussed PhD. dissertation entitled “Evaluation of Zinc Oxide
Eugenol Root Canal Sealer Incorporated with Nano-Hydroxyapatite and L-Tyrosine
Amino Acid: An In Vitro Study”, on Thursday, 8 May 2025 forwarded by Rasha
Muzahem Maauf. The study evaluated the effect of incorporation of 25nm size fine
particles of synthetic nano hydroxyapatite particles (nHAP) and tyrosine amino acid
at different concentrations to the original composition of zinc oxide eugenol sealer by
assessing setting time, solubility, flow ability, film thickness working time and
radiopacity. Additionally, to compare the biocompatibility and re-mineralizing
capacity of zinc oxide eugenol sealer following the addition of nanohydroxyapatite
tyrosine amino acid. It was concluded by the study that the zinc oxide eugenol sealer
after addition of nHAP-Tyr, amino acid converted it from non-bioactive to bioactive
sealer type, which is a topic of interest in dental clinics at the present time.
