Oral viva of PhD dissertation at the Department of Conservative Dentistry/ College of Dentistry

College of Dentistry discussed PhD dissertation entitled ‘‘The Regenerative Effect of Platelet Concentrates Mixed with MTA as a Direct Pulp Capping Material (In Dog Animal Models”, on Sunday, August 17, 2025. Forwarded by Shaimaa Shaker Hasan. The study investigated the effect of mixing Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) powder with injectable Platelet-Rich Fibrin (I-PRF) and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) on the properties of MTA, as well as the biological response of dental pulp, in addition to investigate the immunohistochemical expression of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). It was concluded by the research that I-PRF and PRP, as a mixing liquid for MTA, enabled the setting of MTA and the formation of the setting hydrational reaction byproducts. I-PRF and PRP showed an alkaline pH for up to 28 days when mixed with MTA. For pulp capping, I-PRF and PRP groups showed less inflammatory response and an earlier reparative dentin bridge; the formed dentin bridge had better quality than that formed in the control group. For the angiogenesis marker VEGF-A, I-PRF and PRP increased VEGF-A expression compared to the control group.
