“Drugs: Harm to Individuals and Communities”

As part of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week activities, and in collaboration with the Presidency of the University of Mosul / Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, the College of Dentistry at the University of Mosul continued its awareness initiatives today, Thursday, by holding the second lecture of the workshop aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drugs and their health and social impacts.
This event featured a lecture delivered by Lecturer Dr. Sinan Thanon Abdullah, who addressed the topic “Drugs: Harm to Individuals and Communities.” He explained the nature of both common and uncommon types of narcotics, their physiological effects on human organs, and the ways in which they impact the nervous system and human behavior—often in ways that may not be visible to users.
Dr. Sinan also discussed the real risks posed by this phenomenon, emphasizing that community awareness represents the first line of defense, and that these substances do not target one specific group but can affect various segments of society due to their widespread availability.
The lecture concluded by underscoring the importance of strengthening cultural cooperation among all segments of the community.
