Doctoral Dissertation Defense on the Fabrication of an Orthodontic Adhesive

On Monday, September 22, 2025, the Department of Pediatric, Orthodontics, and Preventive Dentistry, College of Dentistry, University of Mosul, held the discussion of the doctoral dissertation entitled:” Properties of Bioactive Composite After Adding Color Change and Fluorescent Dyes to be Used as Orthodontic Adhesive”, Forwarded by Mohammed Thanoon Younis. The study investigated focused on fabricating a locally manufactured orthodontic adhesive characterized by fluoride release, fluorescence emission, and color change simultaneously. It was concluded by the research aimed to address common challenges faced by both orthodontists and patients during treatment, such as adhesive remnants persisting from placement until the end of treatment. Enamel discoloration and the appearance of white spots, Enamel scratches during removal of adhesive remnants after deboning. A series of laboratory tests were conducted on the adhesive to evaluate its performance, including degree of conversion and shear bond strength adhesive remnant index after deboning, compressive strength, and hardness. Water sorption, solubility, and fluoride release, scanning electron microscopy examination, cytotoxicity and bioactivity assessment.
