University Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit
Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance is a fundamental pillar in supporting students to overcome psychological, social, academic, and other challenges. It also contributes to identifying students’ abilities and maximizing their potential in a manner that benefits both the individual and society.
Administratively, the Unit is affiliated with the Office of the Dean of the College.
Vision:
To provide specialized psychological counseling and educational guidance services aimed at building an ideal human model and contributing to societal advancement.
Mission:
To provide psychological support, counseling, and educational guidance to all components of the educational system, and to work toward developing their skills and capabilities to achieve sound psychological, social, and professional adjustment with themselves and others.
Objectives:
The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Dentistry aims to:
Assist students in dealing with the challenges they face, whether psychological, social, academic, or otherwise.
Support students in addressing issues related to academic achievement and enhancing their academic performance.
Develop and nurture students’ talents and skills.
Organize awareness lectures, seminars, and discussion sessions to reinforce counseling, educational, and academic principles within the educational institution.
Instill ethical, social, and academic values in students, and promote adherence to university traditions, regulations, and campus ethics.
Help students identify their strengths and work toward enhancing and developing them.
Engage students in activities organized by the University Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Units, including conferences, workshops, seminars, and lectures.
Provide support and assistance and cooperate with researchers in conducting studies and research addressing psychological and social issues among students, as well as proposing recommendations to develop and improve psychological and educational counseling services.
Duties of the Academic Advisor:
Introducing students to the college, its deanship, and supporting departments, and explaining how to access available services in coordination with the relevant administrative units.
Raising students’ awareness of potential academic difficulties and guiding them in preparing academic study plans and schedules.
Receiving and welcoming newly admitted students at the beginning of the academic year and familiarizing them with university regulations, bylaws, and the academic environment.
Assisting students in selecting appropriate academic majors in line with their abilities, academic interests, and the needs of the labor market and society.
Preparing an individual academic file for each student, explaining university regulations and systems, and clarifying students’ rights, duties, and graduation requirements.
Supporting students in completing graduation requirements within the maximum period allowed according to university regulations.
Monitoring academically underperforming students and assisting them in overcoming academic difficulties and achieving academic success.
Providing support to students in addressing challenges through coordination with the college administration and proposing appropriate solutions.
Maintaining effective communication with students, listening to their concerns, involving them in planning their academic pathways, and leveraging their experiences to help them overcome obstacles during their studies.
