Master Thesis Viva-Biology Department

Master Thesis Viva in the College of Education for Pure Science entitled “The effectiveness of the listening triangle strategy in imaginative thinking and the acquisition of biological concepts of second-grade intermediate students”The College of Education for Pure Science, University of Mosul, has done the Master Thesis Viva entitled “The effectiveness of the listening triangle strategy in imaginative thinking and the acquisition of biological concepts of second-grade intermediate students “,On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, the College staff including the respected Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim, the Honorable Scientific Associate and Administrative Associate, the Honorable Head of the Department of Biology, and a number of the college’s teachers were attended the viva. This study, presented by the Master student Saif Adnan Mohammed in the Department of Biology, The current research aims to identify the effect of teaching using the listening triangle strategy in acquiring biological concepts in science for second-grade students. In order to achieve the research goal, the following two null hypotheses were formulated:1- There is no statistically significant difference at the significance level (0.05) between the average scores of the experimental group students who studied using the listening triangle strategy and the average scores of the control group students who studied in the traditional way in the test of acquiring imaginative thinking.2- There is no statistically significant difference at the significance level (0.05) between the average scores of the experimental group students who studied using the listening triangle strategy and the average scores of the control group students who studied in the traditional way in the test of acquiring biological concepts. The current research was limited to students of the second intermediate grade in (Al-Furatin Intermediate School for Boys) one of the governmental day schools affiliated to General Directorate of
Al-Qadisiyah Education for the academic year (2021-2022).The researcher used the partially controlled experimental design for two equal groups, which includes two groups:One is experimental and the other is control, and according to this design, the researcher chose Al-Furatin Intermediate School for Boys intentionally, where the group (A) was chosen to represent the experimental group and included (25) students who studied according to the listening triangle strategy, and group (B) to represent the control group, which included (25) students Study the traditional way.The two groups were rewarded in the variables of chronological age, intelligence, and previous achievement. Also, the researcher controlled extraneous variables such as the confidentiality of experience and processes related to maturity and experimental extinction. The researcher identified the scientific material represented by the last three chapters (seventh, eighth, ninth) from the science book for the second intermediate grade (I 2021,4) and formulated behavioral goals for the scientific subjec, which amounted to (123) behavioral goals. Also, the researcher prepared (16) teaching plans for the experimental group and (16) teaching plans for the control group.regarding the research tools, the researcher prepared, The test of acquiring biological concepts, which in its final form consisted of (45) paragraphs of the type of multiple choice with three alternatives, and its apparent validity was calculated by presenting it to a group of arbitrators with experience and competence, stability coefficient was calculated using Alpha Cronbach’s equation and difficulty and distinguishing power and the effect of wrong alternatives of all items. The experiment was applied in the first course of the academic year (2020-2021) on the research sample of the students of the second intermediate grade, where the researcher taught the two research groups and after the end of the experiment, the results were statistically analyzed using the t-test for two independent samples. The results showed that the experimental group who studied with the listening triangle strategy outperformed the students of the control group who studied using the traditional method in the test of acquiring biological concepts. The Viva committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Yassin Abdullah, University of Mosul / College of Education for Pure Science (Experienced Professor) and the membership of Prof. Dr. Hadi katafan Shawn Al Abdullah from Al-Qadisiyah University/College of Education, Asst Prof. Dr. Amal Fattah Zeidan from University of Mosul / College of Education for Pure Science and under the supervision and membership of both Asst. Prof. Dr. Ma’rib Muhammad Ahmad from University of Mosul / College of Education for Pure Science and Asst. Prof. Dr. shifa’ mahdi salih University of Mosul / College of Education for Pure Science.
