Overview
It was established in 1975 as a branch within the Department of Chemistry and Life Sciences, and then it became an independent department in 1981-1982. The department seeks to provide an environment that builds the scientific and intellectual capabilities of the student and provides skills and practical experience while opening up prospects for cooperation with the rest of the corresponding colleges within the University of Mosul, such as Science, Education for girls, Basic Education in addition to the other related universities. The department aims to prepare and qualify teaching staff to be able to lead the new generation of students. The department awards a bachelor’s degree in life sciences for undergraduate studies. In 1994-1995, postgraduate studies began in the department to award Master’s and Doctoral degrees in life sciences. As well as a Master’s study in Biology Teaching Methods, that began in 2019-2020. The department includes 81 teachers with the title of professor, assistant professor, lecturer and assistant lecturer. The department supports conducting scientific research for faculty staff. Documenting scientific cooperation with scientific institutions, and participating in seminars and scientific conferences to develop the scientific aspects of faculty members.
