In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), the Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul continues its scientific lectures as part of the summer training program for students from the College of Environmental Sciences and Technologies on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in the Center’s laboratories.

The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Taha Ahmed Al-Tayyar and Assistant Lecturer Safwa Walid Ahmed.

It addressed the importance of field and laboratory tests in accurately diagnosing the types and locations of various environmental pollutants, and their role in providing a comprehensive understanding of the environmental treatments required to reduce pollution.

The lecture focused on raising awareness of the dangers of radon gas, as a silent environmental pollutant, highlighting its natural sources within buildings and its potential health effects, particularly its relationship to lung cancer.

The lecture included an explanation of methods for detecting the gas, as well as means of prevention and reducing exposure to it, emphasizing the importance of enhancing environmental awareness among students as a means of reducing its risks.
