The Environmental Impact of Smart Living — From Manufacturing to Consumption

The Environmental Research Center at the University of Mosul organized today, Wednesday, March 4, 2026, an academic panel discussion entitled:
“The Environmental Impact of Smart Living — From Manufacturing to Consumption.”
This event was held as part of the University’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness and support scientific engagement with sustainability-related issues.
The discussion addressed the concept of smart living as a contemporary lifestyle increasingly dependent on advanced technologies and interconnected devices. It examined the environmental implications associated with manufacturing processes, supply chains, and consumption patterns, while also highlighting challenges related to electronic waste management, energy use, and carbon footprint.
Participants further explored strategies for balancing technological advancement with environmental protection, emphasizing the importance of adopting sustainable production and consumption models that reduce environmental impact and enhance resource efficiency.
This panel forms part of the Center’s scientific activities aimed at advancing research, fostering academic dialogue on contemporary environmental challenges, and aligning institutional efforts with the Sustainable Development Goals and the University’s vision of community service.
This panel discussion contributes meaningfully to the advancement of Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), while reinforcing sustainable innovation and environmentally responsible industrial development. It reflects the University’s academic and societal commitment to addressing pressing environmental challenges through research, dialogue, and community engagement.
